Thumbs down 7's Appalling Coverage

I have tried to watch 7's evening coverage of the games and find it appalling. There is no feeling for sport - you switch from one event to another- show endless ads in all the wrong places - and totally lose any semblance of continuity or competiton in most events. The only events with any context are the swimming - only because they are 1-5 min events. And
then there are the endless repeats of winning aussie swimmers......................

It is an absolute waste of millions of dollars spent to acquire the olympic rights when you are driving me and no doubt countless others to SBS, the net, radio and anywhere else but 7 to enjoy the games.

Too late to chnage the way you cover the games but time enough to fire all concerned with the coverage decisions.

Thumbs down disgust over the coverage of the 2008 Olympic Games

We, as a family, have been counting down the days for these games, hoping to follow a cross section of ALL Australians competing in the Olympics. I find I am viewing re-runs of the same race, usually swimming, over and over again. And I love the swimming!!!!

But what about everything else. In addition your coverage at night is poorly planned and does not let the viewers know the times the events will be televised. I would like to plan around the events I would like to see, or my children to see, but due to poor planning on your part this has not been possible.

Being a Melbourne based channel, I normally prefer channel 7 to the other channels, however will be choosing other networks from now on. And for the Olympics, I have chosen to move back in time 60 years and have reverted to listening to the LIVE coverage of Olympic events via the "transistor radio" (SEN & ABC)

I'm have supported channel 7 over many years for its news and sport. I have been disapointed with Channel 7 during its coverage of the Beiijing Games for not advertising times for up and coming events during the live telecast.

You might say swimming coming up soon but that could be 2 hours away. I have also been watching the coverage by channel 28 and they give detailed information by times for up and coming events which I find really helpful. It was the same with the opening of the games when I was waiting for Australia to enter the stadium. If I had have known an approxiamate time they were coming out I would have waited but instead gave up and went to bed

Thumbs down Boo Channel 7 BOO!

I was disgusted last night (Tuesday 12th August 2008) with 7's coverage of the Olympic Games.

Lleyton Hewitt our most famous Tennis player of the moment was playing on CENTRE COURT in Beijing and your station barely televised 10 minutes of play!

Channel 7 thought it was much better to replay Leisel Jones' wonderful Gold moment several times and bloody Germans and Brits riding horses!

Unnacceptable, not to mention disrespectful to Lleyton whom some of us still have faith in.

Boo Channel 7 BOO!

I am unimpressed and will now be watching only SBS' coverage... and perhaps boycotting all your shows within my home...

Thumbs down Disgraceful Olympics coverage

Disgraceful Olympics coverage. Endless replays of replays, absolute fixation with swimming as the only "worthy" sport. I turned over to SBS after the first two days, only to flick back to 7 from time to time to remind myself of how insulting and superficial your coverage has been. SBS actually covers other sports! Derrr.

And by the way, Stephanie Rice might be a lovely kid (so might the plainer-looker girls who command very little of the 7 network's attention). But they are not doing her - or anyone else - a favour in hammering their achievements ad infinitum.

What they are doing (apart from facilitating the obvious "cashing in" of a girl being able to swim) is creating resentment towards a person - among others - who is being given exaggerated attention.

I can't wait for the swimming to be over. And I've been a sportsperson for over 40 years. Does that mean anything to 7's people? Nah, I didn't think so.......

What a disgrace 7's coverage of the 2008 olympics is.

If they are going to cut sports frequently for the swimming or other events be more transparent about it. Their coverage of the swimming is over kill!

For example on the 15th they replayed the swimming gold medal again rather than showing the start of the women's hockey Aust vs. South Africa, don't they think we have seen enough swimming!! and when they said they will be back to the men's basketball USA vs. Greece the coverage was only the 4th quarter. I stayed up just to watch that and I only get 10mins first quarter and 10mins last quarter.

Please, 7, do not ever bid for the olympics coverage again, way to many adds as well.

Thumbs down Channel 7's name is MUD

7's coverage of the Olympics is a disgrace.

You are guilty of false advertising. You have been claiming since the beginning of the year
that you would bring us a comprehensive coverage of the Beijing Olympics. We have had no substantial coverage - numerous replays, and ads almost every four minutes. We have been told that "coming up" we will have .... but nothing seems to come up. Bruce, it is not Speecial. It's is a farce!

Also. Choose your sponsors wisely. We are sick of having the Commonwealth Bank thrust in our faces every ad break when they are the ones who "cannot afford to pass on the drop in interest rates" in spite of record billions of dollars profit. Just remember that every day Aussies are your bread and butter, and from what we read in the letters to the editors and hear on radio re the Olympics coverage, Channel 7's name is MUD.

Question

I am sorry to say, 7, but your coverage of the 29th Ollympiad has been appalling and very very disappointing.

So many reasons why in any particular order and I am sure you would agree that you have not done the best job possible.

* No coverage of the cycling, particularly the mounatian bike and pathetic coverage of the road races.

* Opening Ceremony, with lvery limited commentary about what is going on and no subtitles

* You show too much swimming and show a lot of heats. Who has the time to watch heats and who cares?

* I understand that you may have had coverage obligations to continue to telecast the AFL, but during the Olympics, come on guys, that's pathetic. Then when there is no Olympics you have a delayed telecast of the AFL and by the time it is half time in your broadcast the game is already over!!!!!!!!!!!

* Okay, we live in Australia, but isn't the Olympics about countries of the
world competing against each other. For example, in the women's gymnastics the Romanians are known to be great, where are they? How about highlghts of the best performances of overall sports instead showing swimming heats. Some of us do have to go to work during the day you realise.

* It's fine to interview the athletes, but please, get the right people to interview the athletes and not just pretty faces that know squat.

There is probably more for me to write, but I am going to watch and have watched SBS's coverage more often and grateful for what they have shown to us in Australia. But I am also surprised that they didn't show the mounatin bike event. What is happening with the BMX? Or will you be showing us just Athletics and multiple heats?

Thumbs down 7's Olympic Disgrace

I'm not sure whether 7 is aware of the public's disgust at its coverage of the Olympics. I imagine they are because every public forum in the country is canning them. But it is very obvious that they don't care. After all, what can we do about it. Unfortunately, we're stuck with their sub-standard coverage.

The incessant ad breaks are bad enough. But when we, the sports loving general public, all know that there are events happening live and they choose to continue to show replays of events that happened two hours earlier, it proves that they are treating their viewers with disdain and complete and utter disrespect.

Craig Mottram's 5000m heat started at 10:55pm AEST. Half time on the basketball was at 10:45. What they then chose to do was take an ad break, return to the 1st heat of the 800m that was run at 9:00 pm AEST to show Lachlan Renshaw running. They then took another 3 minute ad break (after a race that went for less than 2 minutes) and then returned to another heat of the 800m. At about this time, Mottram's heat was starting. So what did they do? Another ad break, and hey, when they returned from the ad break, they threw out a little teaser about Mottram's 5000m coming soon... AND THEN THEY RETURNED TO THE BASKETBALL.

I'm sure they'll try to justify this with some lame logic but frankly, there is no excuse or reasoning they could come up with to convince me and millions of Australian's that they have done the best job possible.

In a word....disgrace.

Thumbs down Coverage a national disgrace

7's coverage of the games is a national disgrace ,you cannot plan to watch any event as you refuse to go to the advertised sport.

To miss the first half of the Boomers v USA basketball game for a crappy boring softball game was unbelievable, you have that many ads I wouldn't buy their products on principle. You make all the excuses about how you can't cover everything, you haven't covered anything properly. I think your responsibility is to show australian sport and if there are more than one on then surely the sport with the highest profile or public interest eg Boomers v USA basketball should be covered. Listening to Bruce McAvarney's verbal crap about athletics when there are no Australians competing is really painful. Single sport paid tv can't come fast enough for me.

Thumbs down

Just a quick note on the broadcasting of the olympic games.

Very dissapointed in the quality and a lack of showing of different events. I don't need to watch 2 hrs of softball or gymnastics without showing glimpses of the many other events going on at the same time.

Hope 7 don't get the broadcasting rights of the next olympics. I usually love the olympics but they have ruined this one for me, thanks!

Thumbs down Go channel 9 in London 2012!!!

I just cannot believe the arrogance, audacity and sheer ignorance of channel 7 in cutting off one of the most entertaining and keenly awaited events of the Beijing Olympics with your puerile and amateurish news hour.

The gold medal match of the men's basketball was proving to be one of the highlights of the entire games - oh I'm sorry AUSTRALIA was not in that game so your market sector would not really be interested. My god the game only had about 15minutes to play out. Why not attempt to re-gain the faith of the many that you turned-off your station for ever by letting it take precedence over the news???

Thank the heavens that for SBS. Without them I surely would have gone mad watching all the pathetic patriotic and nationalistic bulls**t that you people threw at us. The marketing was relentlessly mind-numbing and I think I will sue you for RSI to my thumb inflicted by me having to mute the sound or change to SBS during your endless ad-breaks. SBS showed so many wonderful and interesting sports and "alternative" events that you guys just didn't give a damn about. I am a former national level swimming champion and I can
tell you that I was totally sick of the boring focus on swimming with endless heats and constant replays of meaningless crap.

Go channel 9 in London 2012!!! I can assure you that there are many people that I have spoken to over the course of this Olympics who share my sentiments passionately. I will do my very best to never watch your stupid patronising station again or log on your stupid website. Kerry Stokes blows.

The only thing I wonder is why didn't Channel 7 use more than one channel to cover the Olympics?

Channel 2 with a fraction of the budget of 7 managed to play the paralympics on all 3 channels, offering a wide breadth of events. Did it not occur to them they have other channels? What are they doing with them?
