Thumbs down Channel 7 news complaint

I want to express my disgust at Channel 7's 6.00 news showing of the footage of the knife wielding man covered in blood after the Bayswater murder yesterday. He was obviously quite ill, and I hate to think of the effect of that image on any kids watching, not to mention those who know the families of this couple. It's completely unneccessary to show such graphic scenes on public TV.

Please think again before showing such graphic and disturbing images on the news. People who witness things like this in person are offered counselling, but not those who suddenly have the television image thrust at them in their homes.

Thumbs down Mark Scaife's comments on Road Safety

I write to submit my disappointment with Channel 7 and the presenter Mark Scaife on the road safety sector in the last 'Sunday Night' programme.

What your agenda was in putting forward these views bothers me some considering that I found many errors in facts, misleading information and very little if any opportunities given to air differing views from respected authorities.

One of the main issues appeared to be the comparison made with road safety and speed limits with and favourable to Germany over Australial. The significant size difference, expenditure required etc to construct super highways to Germany's level would realisticallly not happen in one hundred years not to mention the highly developed alternative freight transport which Germany has and which assists greatly in reducing road trauma and which Australia could not possibly achieve in the short term. These matters were not referred to the other night and why not.

Further the fact that for the year 2009 the fatality rate per 10000 vehicles in Germany was .91 whilst Australia recorded .9. This fact was not mentioned and why not.

Further the fact that the minimum age to obtain a driver's licence in Germany is 18 years - in Australia it is 17 years. This fact was not mentioned and why not.

The other major issue on this programme appeared to be Mark Scaife advocating higher speed limits and his opposition to Intelligent Speed Assistance technology. He is sending the wrong message completely. Does Mr.Scaife and Channel 7 know that road safety statistics reveal that for each and every one of the last six years more than one third of all fatalities on Australian roads occurred on single lane undivided roads with a speed limit of 100kph and or above. A most disturbing statistic and yet no mention was made of this relevant to liking to increase speed limits.

Furthermore when urban speed limits in Australia were reduced from 60 kph to 50 there followed a major reduction in the urban road toll and an acceptance by the public for this change and yet no mention was made of this fact.

When Australia has succeeded in substantially reducing the road toll in recent years why wasn't this fact mention.

I feel Channel 7 has done a disservice to the efforts made so far in successfully reducing the raod toll in Australia by supporting and broadcasting the comments made by Mark Scaife.

Thumbs down Channel 7 politics & election coverage

At 6.05 p.m we had a crack of thunder and lost all power for 2 hours, at that time I was sending your station an email.

Although an election has not been called, both you and I know it is imminent. When the P.M. calls the election the media will have to give both parties equal time, obviously these lying corrupt thugs (our govt), will not call it until the last moment. From my perspective your station, journalists ,are colluding with the government as are most in the main, lame ,left media.

Conroy gave you 250 million of my, and other tax payers hard earned dollars, thieving our dollars really. Can we assume it is now quid pro quo?

How about some honest, hard hitting, investigative political journalism, instead of the womens magazine trash you dish up to your viewers.Channel 7, happy to hit charlatans in private enterprise, lets see some consistency with these thugs who are running this country into the ground, wracking up massive defecits. You mob should try thinking about our Great Australia being made a "laughing Stock" on the world stage.
