CSI: Crime Scene Investigation
Channel 9 was always the gold standard for broadcasting networks yet, over the last few years, has seriously lost its way.
There are many examples highlighting this, but the one I will use is CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
I have been a loyal fan for many years but have been put off by the way Channel 9 manage it. There is no consistency with its airing dates and viewers are made to feel like it is a 'reward' to get an episode aired.
It is still, after 9 seasons, one of the most watched and highlighly rated shows throughout the world - except in Australia when it rarely rates in the top 20.
The reason is that loyal viewers are fed up with Channel 9's lack of respect for them and choose instead to watch it on the internet, or simply to watch it when its released on dvd.
Sports fans are rarely disrespected in such a way.
And, presumably due to contractual arrangements with Channel 9, it is not available through itunes.
Repeats are extremely rare as well.
The key to keeping viewers in touch with such top rating shows is, surely, obvious. Keep episodes regular and consistent and have repeats during the week. Make it easily accessible to the fans. If its too hard or too annoying to keep track of episodes, viewers will simply switch to another channel.
Channel 9 seem to have no problem with over-exposure when it comes to things such as Gordon Ramsay or Two and A Half Men - how about trying it for a universally popular show which, despite its age, continues to be the biggest rating show throughout the world (with the exception of Australia).
I hope someone at the station considers this email and doesn't simply hit delete. From what I read online and hear from other once loyal CSI fans, I am hardly in a minority.
